HARROGATE Railway boss Dave Morgan is desperate to put one over former side Lancaster City tomorrow when the Dolly Blues visit Station View (3pm kick-off).
Rail’s first UniBond First Division North fixture promises to be a cracker with Morgan ready to cross swords with opposite number and former teammate Barrie Stimpson.

The two spent several years on the same side at Morecambe and Colne Dynamoes in the late 1980s before a short stint at the Giant Axe near the end of their careers.

Morgan knows how important tomorrow will be and is expecting stiff competition from City after the sleeping giants failed to make an impact on the division last season.

Morgan’s men had a mixed record against Lancaster last term losing away and drawing 0-0 at home.

The Rail’ boss is eager to set the record straight and claim bragging rights over old pal Stimpson in the process.

“I know Barry well but I’ll know he’ll be thinking the same way as me in that we finished near Lancaster last season and they can beat us,” said Morgan.

“He’ll be looking to put one over on me but it’s so important for us we set off with a win.

“Winning breeds confidence and I think if we can get three points on the board on Saturday it will set us going in the right direction.

“Just looking at the first few games they’re all against teams that finished there or there abouts with us in the table at the end of last season.

“Not being big-headed but if we’ve got any aspirations to finish up there this season we need to be winning those games and Lancaster is definitely one we should be looking at winning.”

Rail’ will then continue their UniBond campaign with a trip to Rossendale United on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).

“Rossendale will be another game we will be looking to win,” continued Morgan.

“But Saturday is very important because it is a home game.

“We need to make sure we start winning home games because sometimes we were poor last year.

“Last year we were far too inconsistent, and that’s something we really need to cut out.

“In my opinion I don’t think the FA Cup run actually helped us in that way as we were playing well in that but not so much in the league.

“It’s important to pick up points when we bring sides to us.”

Meanwhile Morgan has revealed Chris Rossindale has decided to quit the club due to work commitments but the boss is hopeful he has a ready made replacement in newly-signed ex-Guiseley man Damian Dunne.

The manager is hoping Dunne can be the final piece in the jigsaw for Rail’ and the attacking midfielder Morgan has been so desperate to sign.

“If you look last season the one problem we had was scoring goals,” said Morgan.

“We struggled to score enough and we certainly didn’t get enough from midfield. Damian however is a goalscorer and that’s something we have been looking for.

“If you look at our defence it’s one of the best in the league.
